Lin comes from an extremely musical family that spans generations. Her father was the principle flutist of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, one of the major orchestras in China, for more than 35 years. Her mother was the first violinist of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. Her grandfather, Tan Shu Zhen, was the executive vice president of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Critics say the Shanghai Conservatory of Music created the new generation of Chinese classical performers from 1949 to 1990. Mr. Tan Shu Zhen also organized, narrated and co-produced "From Mao to Mozart: Isaac Stern in China" a documentary that won an Academy Award for best documentary feature. Lin was a student of Professor Lin Ke Ming of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and has performed in numerous cities and concert halls with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. Most importantly she was one of the only flute players that joined the Church in the city of Shanghai where she regularly performed church and classical music. Since she moved to the United States in 1992, she married and has a beautiful daughter, Claire Wang. Although she chose to concentrate more on her family, she has been actively teaching children in elementary school as well as giving private music lessons.
