Lesson Policy

1.1   Registration -   Upon enrollment you are billed a one time $60.00 Registration Fee.  On your first lesson you will receive a complimentary Rhythm Book which can be used along with YouTube instructional videos. You will also received complimentary flashcards with music notation. Start memorizing notes on the white flash cards first ! The black cards have more advanced notes  for later. 

1.2  Annual Admin Fee  - A $20.00 fee is billed every year in January regardless of the month you registered. 

1.3   Monthly Payments - Lessons must be paid for in advance on the 1st week of the month for lessons in that month. There will be a $10.00 late fee if payments are not received by the 20th of the month. Lessons will be suspended if your  payment runs 7 weeks past due.

1.4   Payments - Teachers don't collect payments at lessons. You will find the payment method on your billing statement. 

1.5  Teacher Reports - Teacher reports are processed on the first week of the month. Your most recent billing will have all adjustments that will reflect an accurate history of previous month.

1.6   Lesson SettingParents must be home at the time of lesson. Lessons are to be given in an open room, such as a living room.  Parents must ensure students practice 30 to 60 minutes  every day in preparation for the next lesson.

2.1   Student CancellationsTeachers are holding your time slot every week, therefore monthly tuition must be consistent and all cancellations must be paid for. Essentially, You are paying for a time slot.DO NOT deduct student cancellations from the following month’s tuition.  If you can't commit to a weekly lesson due to sports, dance class, karate, tutoring or other activities, this may not be the best fit for you.  No make ups are provided for kids who miss group classes: RE 101, RE 201 and RE 301. If a minimum of 24 hours notice is given (to your teacher's phone, not business line) a make-up lesson will be provided. This includes cancelling due to sickness or other school activities. 

2.2   Quarterly Allowance 

Teachers are only required to make up one cancellation per quarter.

1st Quarter: January 1 – March 31

2nd Quarter: April 1 – June 30

3rd Quarter: July 1 – September 30

4th Quarter: October 1 – December 31

2.3   Is a reschedule counted as a cancellation ?  No. If a lesson is rescheduled to another day within the same week this is not a cancellation and will not be counted against your quarterly allowance. However, a reschedule is not always possible with teachers who have a full schedule.

2.4​  Teacher Cancellations -   You are not required to make up teacher cancellations. It will be credited back to your bill. If you know in advance that your teacher will be away you can automatically deduct it from your bill. 

2.5  Make-up Credits- Your make-up credits are found on the upper left corner of your statement in Green Print. Make-ups expire after one year so be sure you are proactive in arranging these make-ups with your teacher. Summer is a great time to get caught up on make-ups. â€‹

3.1  Holidays  - There are no lessons on: 

1. New Year's Day

2. Independence Day

3. 4th of July

4. Memorial Day

5. Labor Day

6. Halloween

7. Thanksgiving

8. Christmas

You don't pay for lessons that fall on these dates. Note, it must fall on the specific day. It doesn't  include the whole holiday weekend.​

3.2  Can I Lose My Time Slot? Yes. You may be removed from schedule for the following reasons:  Not practicing , excessive cancellations

unpaid bills, contentious haggling over billing / policy, unwarranted complaints against teacher or asking teacher to give music lessons outside of their contractual agreement  with Music Lessons In Your House. 

​3.3  Vacation If you are gone for 2 or more consecutive weeks at a time that is considered vacation. You are not required to pay for lessons while you are away. 

3.4  Permanent Stops -   If you are gone for a month or more, this is considered a stop. When you restart lessons:  You may have to find a new time slot with your  teacher. If your teacher's schedule is full when you return, we will assign you to another teacher. . 

​3.5   Summer Schedule -  Students are encouraged to maintain the same schedule throughout the Summer to avoid scheduling confusion when school starts back up. â€‹

4.1  Family Discounts - $10.00 off your weekly lesson rate when family members book lessons back to back. Family discounts only apply to family members, not friends meeting at one home. The maximum family discount is $10.00

4.2   Hourly Discounts$10.00 off your weekly lesson rate when student takes hour lessons. â€‹

4.3   Referral Credit / Mileage Discount Zone -  We don't give a referral credit, but we have something better in place. It is already baked into the pricing. Referring friends to your zone or other zones has an impact on pricing for everybody. You are benefiting from our pricing due to others who have referred students in your zone. Teachers base their rate on how far they travel and if there are other students in that same location. If a teacher travels to a zone  for only one lesson, the rate will be higher than if teacher travels to a zone  to teach multiple students .

5.1  Books - Other than the complimentary materials that you receive upon registration, teachers will decide what other books they would like to use along the way and will refer you to links to purchase online. 

5.2   InstrumentsGuitar students must own a guitar with good intonation (guitar must stay in tune). All piano students are required to play on a full size 88 key piano. Keys must be fully weighted. We provide rentals to meet this need. 

5.3  Rent To Own  -   We offer piano rentals @ $30 / Month . 50% of your rental money can be used to purchase your rental. If your piano is picked up and taken off rental program, you lose the option to use that credit.

6.1  Performances - Performances are held every year throughout of the month of March. When the notice is sent out,  please register ASAP if there is a specific date you need. Students performing don't need tickets, but others attending pay $10.00 / ticket. Once your reservation is made your tickets are non-refundableStudents should prepare music selections that collectively total no more than 5 minutes of performance time

6.2 Rock  Ensembles  - RE 101, RE 201 and RE103 are group classes that are held once / month (fee $35 / hour). There must be at least 3 students enrolled for a class to take place. Typically classes are done at the drummer's home. Classes held with the goal of performing in the March Student Performances.
